Palmer con't

After the reindeer farm we went to Musk Ox Farm (a non-profit project) where we were able to view these prehistoric mammals. Fossils of these guys have dated back 2 million years ago.  They are used for their undercoat, which is turned into very expensive yarn (approx. $95 an once) and they get anywhere form 6 to 9 pounds per animal per year.  It's the softest and warmest material used for knitting.  A simple stocking cap is $185. It takes 4 people a day to comb one out.

The babies, which are not combed until they are between 2 and 3 years old.

After Ox tour I got to get out of the pickup and go for a hike up a mountain called The Butte.  It's Palmer's equivalent of Helena's Mt. Helena.  The big difference was the view from the top.

To the far left of us is another glacier, Knik.

We ducked behind the bedrock on top for our lunch.  The climb was very much worth it.

Chuck coming down.

This was quite the day.  I hope Lana and Chuck know I'm not a spring chicken anymore, and either are they!
